Matt began playing bass at the age of 13 in Palm Springs, CA where he grew up. After high school, he moved to LA to attend Musician's Institute and pursue more musical opportunities. Since then, Matt has been involved in various projects including A.G.E.S. with Tommy Dill and Clark Skelton, the band People produced by studio veterans Dave Jerden(Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction) and Bryan Carlstrom(Anthrax, White Zombie), and many others

In 2008 Billy Howerdel(Co-Founder of A Perfect Circle) presented to the public his new solo project, ASHES dIVIDE. Matt was asked to join the band on bass along with drummer Jeff Friedl (Puscifer, Devo), guitarist Andy Gerold (My Darling Murder, Marylin Manson), and keyboardist/vocalist Adam Monroe. The band released it's debut album in April and announced tour dates starting in May that year.

While on a break from ASHES dIVIDE Matt was asked to share bass duties with Rani Sharone(Stolen Babies) on tour with Maynard James Keenan's new project, Puscifer for the first live shows ever performed by the group. The group announced more tour dates later for the fall of 2009 and then again in the spring of 2010 where Matt shared bass, guitar, and keyboard duties with Puscifer Producer/Co-writer Mat Mitchell.
